Decorative Pillows

Decorative pillows add color and texture to your bed, chair, or sofa. They are way over priced and are typically not comfortable. However, we still buy tons of them. I have 5 for our bed alone! If you have them, they might as well look good.
Here is the pillow before fluffing

and after fluffing and adding a karate chop down the middle. Enjoy!

Spring Has Sprung

Jewel tones are in for spring and summer and I couldn't be happier. I love having a large planter near the front door all year long. This is my take for spring. Enjoy!

Start out with a large planter. I found mine at Home Goods for $50. It was originally tan but I painted it classic black. I filled it with about 15 river rocks to weigh it down and topped the rest with planting soil (this way you can actually plant real flowers in the summer).

I added a natural element- bamboo sticks. I found one long bamboo at Michael's 1/2 off and chopped it into 3 different size pieces and put it into the middle. Then I had some extra white hydrangea and placed 4 of them around the base.

Next, I placed 3 different jewel tone purple flower bushes that are a step higher than the hydrangea.
Finally, I placed 5 large purple tulips high above the bushes and voila! Jewel-toned spring planter.

Curb Appeal- Part 1

It's that time of the year again where the great people of Omaha are done with their spring cleaning and start their home improvement and garden projects. I couldn't be happier to join this trend as normally, in Minnesota, I would still be bundled up in my parka and mittens with the heater on full blast.
I may have promised my husband last year that we would do 3 projects every 3 months... Well, I couldn't help myself. Today we started whitewashing the exterior brick:

I stained the fence carrier that holds our garbage.

We also built and stained a pergola to go over the garage, and have started to paint the trim. Call it curb appeal... part 1! (I will post step by step instructions later)

Curb Appeal Part 2 will consist of re-landscaping the front. I am very blessed to have such a fun loving and understanding husband! Thanks for the help sweetheart!

With love from Omaha

Hello and welcome to my life. I have decided to start a blog about our time here in Omaha.  I am originally from a small town in Minnesota called Princeton. Most of my family still live there. My husband and I met on a Concordia College class trip to Egypt and started dating the following year in Vienna, Austria. We were married June 28th, 2008. He grew up in Omaha and now we share our home here with our Boston terrier,  Mollie.
I will be describing some of our home renovations, travel adventures, and farm life from my in-law's acreage.
